We note that the lateral extent of the southern Tyrrhenian HVA increases with depth from 150 km (layer 2) to about 400 km (layer 5). At greater depth, the Northern Apennines still exhibit a different velocity structure from the Southern Apennines; the former being characterized by a strong HVA.
